My boys started school 2 weeks ago…whaaaat? Yes, back to school and with my oldest starting 2nd grade it was time to get him involved with making his lunch. I also want to teach my kiddos about smart choices and balancing their meals…especially for their school lunch time. Mornings can also get a little crazy so by giving them a task, it helps to keep them focused. Plus, it’s like magic, when they are involved in their food prep, they tend to “like” what they are eating even more!
We came up with this FREE printable picture guide for the kids to follow, and learn how to make their own sandwich.
We opted for the NEW Hillshire Farm Naturals Honey Roasted Ham that we found at Safeway. My kids LOVED how their perfectly sliced, gently sweet honey ham tasted. It’s great on the grocery budget AND has no artificial ingredients, colors, preservatives or nitrates.
Here is my oldest in action making a sandwich for the first time!!
I also love to change things up a little and instead of a traditional sandwich, my kids love wraps. Here is another option using the same Hillshire Farm Naturals Honey Roasted Ham. Take a flour tortilla, spread with veggie cream cheese (this help to hold the wrap together)…layer with swiss cheese, ham, lettuce and tomatoes…roll up, slice and serve.
